Man dies after car crashes into tree at Wollongong, NSW

A man has died following a single-vehicle crash in the state’s Illawarra.

Emergency services were called to Picton Road, Cordeaux, about 4pm yesterday (Wednesday 17 August 2022), after motorists observed a station wagon leave the roadway and hit a tree.

Passing motorists, including an off-duty nurse, stopped to render assistance, but the man died at the scene.

He is yet to be formally identified, however is believed to be aged in his late 30s.

Officers from Wollongong Police District attended and have commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

As inquiries continue, police are appealing for witnesses – including motorists with dashcam vision of the incident – to call Wollongong Police on 4226 7899 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
