Man driving truck carrying asbestos crashes into parked cars, returns 0.308 reading in Cronulla

A man has been charged after allegedly drink-driving and failing-to-stop after crashing into four parked cars in Sydney’s south yesterday.

About 6.50pm (Sunday 29 December 2019), officers from Sutherland Shire Police Area Command were called to the Kingsway, Cronulla, following reports a 3-tonne tipper truck had struck multiple parked cars and kept driving.

Police will allege in court the truck struck a car on Croydon Street, three on Elouera Road – which caused asbestos to spill from the truck – and a perimeter fence on Hume Road, before pulling over on the Kingsway.

Officers subjected the 50-year-old man to a roadside breath test, which allegedly returned a positive result. He was arrested and taken to Sutherland Police Station where he allegedly returned a breath analysis reading of 0.308.

He was issued a Field Court Attendance Notice for drive with high-range PCA, drive manner dangerous and negligent driving. His license was suspended.

The man is due to appear before Sutherland Local Court on Thursday 23 January 2020.
