Man in court after elderly man robbed at Toongabbie, NSW

A man will appear in court today charged over allegedly stealing from an elderly man in Sydney’s west.

About 10am on Monday (10 February 2020), an 89-year-old man withdrew cash from an ATM outside a bank in Aurelia Street, Toongabbie, and began to walk down Toongabbie Road.

Police will allege in court that another man grabbed him from behind and stole his wallet before running from the area.

Officers from Cumberland Police Area Command were notified and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, a 25-year-old man was arrested in a park on Portico Parade, Toongabbie, about 11.15am yesterday (Wednesday 12 February 2020).

He was taken to Granville Police Station, where he was charged with steal from person.

The man, who is an Indian National, was refused bail to appear at Fairfield Local Court today (Thursday 13 February 2020).
