Man injured during attempted carjacking at Wagga Wagga, NSW

An investigation is underway after an attempted carjacking in Wagga Wagga overnight.

Shortly after 6pm (Thursday 9 July 2020), a 20-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman were sitting in a parked car in a carpark off Trail Street, Wagga Wagga, when they were approached by an unknown man.

The man reached into the open driver’s side window and removed the keys, before threatening the pair and producing a knife.

The driver got out and following a brief scuffle, the armed man got in the car.

He was removed by the couple and fled on foot down a nearby alleyway towards Fitzmaurice Street.

The driver sustained cuts to his arms and hands, and was taken to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital for treatment.

Officers from Riverina Police District attended and established two crime scenes at the carpark and alleyway.

As inquiries continue, detectives would like to speak to a man who may be able to assist with inquiries.

He is described as being of Aboriginal appearance with a medium build, aged between 20 and 25, and was wearing dark clothing at the time of the incident.
