Man to face court over fraud and theft in Chatswood

A man will appear in court today charged with fraud and theft offences in Chatswood.

About 7.50pm yesterday (Friday 22 May 2020), police responded to reports that an unknown man had threatened a woman near a shopping centre on Havilah Street in Chatswood.

Officers attached to North Shore Police Area Command attended and spoke to a man nearby that claimed he had also been threatened by a man with a knife.

About 8.40pm, officers stopped and searched a man on Victoria Avenue, Chatswood, allegedly locating about 20 mail items inside his bag, believed to be stolen.

As police attempted to arrest the man, he allegedly ran from the scene before he was arrested nearby in Victor Street.

Upon a further search of the man, police located additional items allegedly concealed in his underwear, including a shower cap containing 3g methylamphetamine and bank cards. Officers also seized a Rolex watch and mail and bank cards located within his bag.

The man was taken to Chatswood Police Station where he was charged with two counts of dishonestly obtain property by deception, two counts of possess identity info to commit etc indictable offence, four counts of goods in personal custody suspected being stolen (not motor vehicle), resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty, possess prohibited drug, common assault, larceny and enter inclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse.

The South Coogee man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 23 May 2020).
