A new regulatory framework is in place for people and organisations responsible for the care or supervision of children.
The new measures, which were announced in a recent progress report in response to recommendations by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse include:
- a mandatory Child Safe Scheme,
- a residential care worker register, and
- the development of a child protection audit tool.
The NSW Government is investing $127 million over five years to improve child safety and to support survivors, including implementing responses to the Royal Commission’s recommendations.
Attorney General Mark Speakman said the NSW Government’s annual progress report provides an update on actions to implement the Royal Commission recommendations.
“Keeping children safe is our absolute priority. We have continued to make real progress while navigating a global pandemic, but there is still more to be done,” Mr Speakman said.
