The Marshalltown Road/Bailey Street intersection (roundabout) is set to undergo improvements as part of the 2023/24 BlackSpot Safety program resulting in full road closures from the 3 January until 25 January 2024.
This project is aimed at enhancing road safety and increasing pedestrian security, with a focus on attenuating approach speeds and providing improved accessibility.
The key aspects of the project include:
Installation of wombat crossings: wombat crossings will be installed on all approaches to the intersection, enhancing pedestrian safety and making it easier for residents to navigate the area.
Roundabout upgrades: the roundabout at Marshalltown Road/Bailey Street will be upgraded, along with drainage, splitter islands, kerb ramps, and the provision of new footpaths. This comprehensive redesign will ensure the entire outer perimeter of the intersection is properly linked, providing accessibility at each quadrant.
Street light upgrade: an expert review and analysis have led to the implementation of a street light upgrade, improving visibility and safety for all road users.
Awareness initiatives: the project also aims to increase awareness of vulnerable road users at the roundabout intersection, fostering a safer and more considerate environment.
The extensive list of improvements includes new footpaths, roundabouts, kerb and channel enhancements, street lighting upgrades, and drainage improvements. Additionally, all new footpath pram ramps/laybacks, asphalt wombat crossings, asphalt overlays on all approaches to the roundabout, and new signage and line-marking with further delineation upgrades featuring Raised Reflective Pavement Markers (RRPM’s) are part of the project.
While these enhancements will significantly improve road safety and accessibility in Grovedale, the closure of Marshalltown Rd and Bailey St will be necessary during the construction period.
Local residents and commuters are encouraged to plan alternate routes and expect delays. Please follow detour signs and roadwork advisories to ensure a safe and efficient commute.
