Matildas V France: Watch ‘Til It’s Done At Extra Live Site

VIC Premier

Thousands more fans will have the chance to cheer on the Matildas with an extra live site to open at Rod Laver Arena for the FIFA Women’s World Cup quarterfinal tomorrow – thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos announced the Matildas vs France match will be shown on big screens in the Melbourne Park precinct as the Australian team continued to capture the hearts and minds of Victorians.

Rod Laver Arena live site will open from 4pm via Gate 3 and 4 and will welcome up to 12,000 attendees on a first come, first served basis.

Over the past few weeks, the FIFA Fan Festival at Fed Square has shown every match of the tournament live on the big screen and welcomed more than 90,000 fans cheering on teams from around the world.

The Matildas games have seen incredible crowds and energy as supporters have come out in force to get behind the Aussies and embrace the excitement of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand is the first time the event has been staged in two host countries and has brought thousands of international players, trainers, and fans to Melbourne.

The Labor Government’s support for the FIFA Women’s World Cup underpins its ongoing commitment to increase the number of women and girls participating in sport and active recreation, from grassroots through to leadership roles.

As stated by Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos

“The level of support we’ve seen for the Matildas is off the charts and we’re making sure more fans can be part of the excitement by opening an extra live site at Rod Laver Arena for their quarterfinal clash with France.”

“This is a great opportunity to cheer on the Matildas as they do us proud on the world stage – and now even more people can gather in Melbourne across multiple sites showing all the action live on screen.”

“We’re looking forward to welcoming thousands of passionate Matildas fans to Fed Square and Rod Laver Arena – the energy in the city will be electric and the benefits will flow on to local businesses.”
