Collie Speedway has received more than $21,000 in grant funding from the State Government to complete a lighting improvement project at the venue.
The $21,291 grant – from the latest round of the State Government’s Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF) – will enable the speedway to undertake the second stage of planned lighting upgrades.
Stage 2 follows the recent completion of Stage 1 of the project, which replaced part of the trackside lighting and installed LED lights and poles at the venue.
The total cost of the project is $63,873, with additional funding from the Collie Mineworkers fund ($25,000) and Collie Racing Drivers Association ($10,322) – as well as volunteer labour valued at $7,260.
The project will enhance the venue for spectators and competitors, and improve its capacity to hold events – helping to attract visitors to the Collie region.
The project is one of 21 in Western Australia to receive a total of $697,300 as part of the latest round of CSRFF small grants funding in support of community sport.
As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray:
“Collie Speedway is a long-time institution in the South-West and I congratulate the Collie Racing Drivers Association on their successful grant application.
“The installation of this more modern lighting system is the next step for the venue and will assist in attracting quality speedway events to Collie.
“The State Government is focused on a range of measures to diversify the Collie economy, including developing the region’s motorsport industry to attract competitions and visitors from around the State and the country.”
