The McGowan Government is providing $2 million over four years to support animal welfare organisations that improve the wellbeing of surrendered, neglected and abandoned companion animals and rescued wildlife.
Applications are now open for the Animal Welfare Grant Program, providing up to $50,000 to organisations for services including rehoming and fostering companion animals, rehabilitating wildlife, and health and veterinary services.
Funding can also be used to purchase infrastructure, equipment or systems that improve the operation and efficiency of animal welfare organisations.
Veterinary clinics, universities and local governments can also seek funding to provide low-cost or free services such as desexing, microchipping and veterinary care.
Animal welfare is a priority of the McGowan Government, which is currently modernising the Animal Welfare Act to better protect and promote the welfare of animals.

“WA is home to scores of passionate not-for-profit organisations that protect and care for vulnerable animals right around the State.
“These are the organisations that take in abandoned or neglected cats and dogs, and rescue injured native animals – so often just with the support of volunteers and community donations.
“The Animal Welfare Grant Program will support these organisations to purchase infrastructure and equipment, and to provide low-cost veterinary services, so they can continue their important work in our communities.
“Our Government is committed to improving animal welfare in WA and we will continue to deliver to the standards expected by our community.”
