MedH researchers Christina Alexandrou and Marie Löf, together with their co-authors, have been awarded the Best Cited RCT 2023 prize by the highly regarded journal International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity (IJBNPA).
The award is presented to the randomised controlled trial (RCT) that has had the greatest scientific impact in terms of citations in IJBNPA. Although the award-winning article was published in 2023, the journal analyses citation data several years after publication, and the award was therefore not presented until 2026.
The study evaluated the MINISTOP 2.0 app, which has been integrated into child healthcare services to promote healthy eating and physical activity habits and to prevent overweight and obesity among preschool children. The app is available in multiple languages and includes culturally adapted information for parents.

“It is very encouraging to see that our research has had such a strong international impact. The award demonstrates that our findings are relevant to many researchers and that digital tools such as MINISTOP can help strengthen preventive efforts to improve children’s health,” says Marie Löf , Professor at the Department of Medicine, Huddinge , Karolinska Institutet.
The award was presented by IJBNPA Editor Richard Rosenkranz at the annual conference of the International Society of Behavioural Nutrition and Physical Activity (ISBNPA) on 28 May 2026.
