The opening of a Medicare Urgent Care Clinic (Medicare UCC) at Maroubra Medical and Dental Centre on Anzac Parade delivers on an Albanese Government commitment to make it easier to get the care you need, when and where you need it.
The Maroubra clinic opened on Wednesday 19 July. It is open extended hours, seven days a week, with no need for an appointment. Twelve Medicare UCCs are now open across Australia, with all clinics to be open by the end of the year.
All services are fully bulk billed and provided by highly trained doctors and nurses, easing pressure on the Prince of Wales Hospital.
The Maroubra clinic is one of the 14 Medicare UCCs across New South Wales – located in Albury, Batemans Bay, Blacktown, Campbelltown, Cessnock, Coffs Harbour, Gosford, Lismore, Penrith, Tamworth, Westmead, Wollongong and Wyong.
Almost half of all presentations to New South Wales hospital emergency departments and around one-third of presentations to the Prince of Wales Hospital emergency are for semi- and non-urgent conditions.
The Medicare UCCs are easing this pressure, so hospitals can concentrate on higher-priority emergencies.
The Government has worked closely with the Central and Eastern Sydney Primary Health Network who, along with the New South Wales Government, have assisted to expedite clinic opening and ensure the Maroubra Medicare UCC aligns with local health services and the needs of the local community.
