The City of Melbourne has announced that 24 organisations are in the running for this year’s Melbourne Awards, our city’s highest accolade.
Lord Mayor Sally Capp said the Melbourne Awards celebrate the inspiring people and organisations that create a better Melbourne through their work.
“This year’s finalists are a diverse group but they all share a passion and commitment for making Melbourne a better place to live, work and visit,” the Lord Mayor said.
“The finalists include some of our renowned events and institutions as well as little known organisations that work behind-the-scenes to help build community spirit.
“Congratulations to the finalists and I look forward to announcing the winners at the awards gala dinner at Melbourne Town Hall on Saturday 16 November.”
The 17th annual Melbourne Awards highlight seven areas in which people and organisations contribute to Melbourne as a thriving, forward-thinking capital city: Community, Environment, Aboriginal Melbourne, Arts and Events, Hospitality, Health and Wellbeing, and Urban Design.
The coveted Melburnian of the Year award will also be announced at the gala dinner. The award recognises an individual whose energy and passion has made an outstanding contribution to the city in their chosen field, as well as a significant contribution to the Melbourne community.
Last year’s winners were philanthropists Simone and Ian Carson AM, who were recognised for their work founding the non-profit organisation SecondBite, which gives food to people in need.
Previous Melburnians of the Year include Susan Alberti AC, Neale Daniher AM, Bryan Lipmann AM, Professor Sharon Lewin and Jim Stynes OAM.
