Melbourne man accused of breaching Control Order 1 December

A 30-year-old Melbourne man charged with allegedly breaching a condition of a Federal Court of Australia Control Order is expected to face Melbourne Magistrates Court today (Tuesday 01 December 2020).

The Victoria High Risk Terrorist Offender (HRTO) Team arrested the man at his home yesterday morning (30 November 2020) and he was remanded in custody after a brief court hearing to re-appear today.

He has been charged with one count of contravening a Federal Court of Australia Control Order, contrary to section 104.27 of the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth).

The offence carries a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment.

A Control Order was confirmed for this individual on 25 September 2020 and is in force until 2 June 2021.

The AFP, Victoria Police and partners use Control Orders and other available legislative measures to ensure the ongoing safety of the Australian community.
