A case of invasive meningococcal disease has been notified in a 14-year-old female from metropolitan Adelaide, who is in hospital in a stable condition.
The strain has been identified as a serogroup B.
Multiple people who had contact with the patient have been identified, and three people have been directed to receive clearance antibiotics.
Meningococcal health information has been distributed to contacts in accordance with the Invasive Meningococcal Disease CommunicableDiseases Network Australia: National Guidelines for Public Health Units.
There have been eight cases of invasive meningococcal disease reported in South Australia this year.
Of the eight cases reported this year, five were serogroup B, two serogroup W, and one serogroup Y.
Eleven cases of invasive meningococcal disease had been notified in South Australia at the same time last year.
