The Department of Health has reached agreement with Ramsay Health Care on the key terms that will form the basis of Ramsay’s contract extension to operate Joondalup Health Campus for at least a further 15 years from 2028, with an option for an additional five years.
The contract extension will include a contemporary funding model and performance management regime implemented from 2025 and enable Ramsay Health Care to plan future investments in its private services with confidence beyond the current expiration in 2028.
Ramsay Health Care has partnered with the Department of Health since 2005 to develop and operate Joondalup Health Campus, which has more than doubled in size since then to become one of the biggest and busiest health services in the State.
A $256.7 million project to expand public services at Joondalup Health Campus is on track following Multiplex being awarded an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) tender for the works.
The expansion comprises:
- a new mental health building, including 30 new acute mental health inpatient beds;
- 12 new emergency department patient bays;
- a Behaviour Assessment Urgent Care Clinic;
- 90 inpatient beds in a design to meet future demand;
- six new critical care beds;
- increased parking bays for members of the public and staff; and
- a new operating theatre and cardiac catheter laboratory.
As stated by Health Minister Roger Cook:
“The State Government, through the Department of Health, has maintained a strong partnership with Ramsay Health Care for more than 15 years.
“Negotiations to extend and amend the existing contract represents a significant shift in the way health services are funded to align them with State-run hospitals, and deliver confidence of continued services to the community.
“I commend both the Department of Health and Ramsay Health Care for committing to work collaboratively on this contract to deliver both high-quality and safe health care and value for money.”
