Minister must step up to find a solution to East Devonport Medical Centre closure 19 January 2024

Health Minister Guy Barnett must stop shirking his responsibilities and deflecting blame to the Federal Government if a solution is to be found to keep the East Devonport Medical Centre open.

It is very disappointing that Thursday’s meeting was more of the same and that the Liberal Government does not have a short, medium or long-term plan to ensure the East Devonport community has ongoing access to a GP.

The Minister has had since November to find a solution.

There is now two weeks for Minister Barnett to work constructively with his federal colleagues, local government and the community before the medical centre is closed.

The closure of this much loved and needed GP practice, which assists more than 6000 community members, will place further strain on a health system already buckling under pressure.

The East Devonport community deserves to have a State government that is focused on delivering solutions and that is what a Labor Government would do.

The community can show its support by signing Labor’s petition to save the East Devonport Medical Centre.
