Moira Shire welcomes affordable housing investment

The Andrews Labour Government commitment to build affordable homes in regional Victoria is a welcomed promise for the Moira Shire region.

On Friday 1 September, the Victorian State Government announced more than $17million to be allocated to build 55 new social homes across regional Victoria as part of the Labour Government’s Social Housing Growth Fund.

The latest funding has been shared across seven local government areas including Moira Shire and will aim to provide safe, stable and secure housing for more regional Victorians.

Moira Shire Council’s Panel of Administrators Chair, John Tanner AM said this funding was crucial to support the economic and social challenges for the region.

“We know there’s a demand for affordable housing in our region and we also know there is a prospect of job growth and being able to deliver more homes where people want to live and work is highly valuable for the community, and most importantly ensuring locals are feeling safe in their surroundings,” Mr Tanner said.

“We are pleased that Moira Shire was recognised in this round of funding, and we look forward to working with the State Government to deliver this housing project.

“This will help to assist in addressing the crucial needs of the Moira Community,” Mr Tanner said.

The funding is part of the landmark $5.3million Big Housing Build which has seen more than 7,600 homes completed or underway since the start of the program in 2020.
