Monash University is offering a new scholarship for a talented Gippsland year 12 student to support them in their higher education studies.
The Vin and Rosemary Massaro Family Scholarship is available to students from the Latrobe Valley and wider Gippsland region, who will start their undergraduate studies at Monash University in 2022.
The scholarship is thanks to a generous philanthropic gift from Vin and Rosemary Massaro.
Dr Vin Massaro grew up in the Latrobe Valley, after his family moved to the region from Italy when he was eight years old. He recognises the fundamental change gaining a tertiary education at Monash University made to his future prospects.
Since graduating from Monash with a Bachelor of Arts and a PhD, Dr Massaro has had a successful career in education management and policy in universities and government, both in Australia and internationally.
Dr Massaro and his wife Rosemary met at Monash while studying French together.
Dr Massaro said: “The vision for the scholarship is to support talented students from the region who might lack the means to study at Monash, and to help students to realise their full potential through education, reducing the cycle of disadvantage and ultimately changing their lives for good.”
The scholarship will support an eligible student with on campus accommodation and an allowance for the first two years and an allowance for the final two, up to the value of $42,000.
