More classrooms for rapidly growing southern suburbs school

  • Architect appointed for $2 million construction of new general teaching block at West Byford Primary School
  • Projects will help boost the construction industry and support local jobs
  • Construction expected to start late February 2021
  • A $2 million upgrade at West Byford Primary School will cater for its rapidly growing community.

    Since opening in 2013, West Byford Primary School has grown from just over 280 students to 795 students, this year.

    Carabiner Architects has been chosen to design an additional general teaching block which includes four modern classrooms, an activity area, a staff study as well as additional student toilets and store rooms.

    The project will support seven local jobs with construction expected to start in late February 2021 and completed in late September 2021.

    This upgrade is part of the McGowan Government’s $492 million commitment to modernise Western Australian public schools over the next four years under the WA Recovery Plan and assists job creation.

    As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:

    “These additional learning areas are vital for this fast growing school community.

    “These fantastic new classrooms and staff areas will accommodate for students and staff now and in the years to come, while also creating local jobs in the process.”

    As stated by East Metropolitan Region MLC Matthew Swinbourn:

    “I am thrilled we are providing high quality permanent learning spaces for students to continue thriving at West Byford Primary School.

    “This continues the McGowan Government’s heavy investment into education in the Byford area and it is pleasing to see this investment benefiting the local community.”
