Labor is delivering new accommodation to help attract healthcare professionals to Kerang

Minister Settle today announced the completion of three units for staff at Kerang District Health.

This was made possible through the Carroll Labor Government’s Regional Worker Accommodation Fund.

The two and three-bedroom units will help attract and retain doctors and clinical staff.

Workers across medical and clinical services in Kerang will begin using the accommodation later this month, supporting Kerang District Health, Kerang Medical Clinic and other essential local services.

It’s one of several projects being delivered by the fund to support the regional healthcare services that are essential to the prosperity of local communities.

The units were designed by local business McKnight & Bray Building Design and built using local trades and suppliers.

The project builder, Cavalier Homes, engaged 21 tradespeople and 10 businesses during the project’s construction.

Accommodation has been completed at Kyabram District Health Service, while other projects underway include housing for staff at Robinvale District Health Services, Benalla Health and Goulburn Valley Health.

Bairnsdale Regional Health Service, Colac Area Health and Omeo District Health also have regional worker accommodation projects.

More than $50 billion has been delivered through the Carroll Labor Government over the past decade to make our regions even better places to live, work, visit and study.

As stated by Minister for Rural and Regional Development Michaela Settle

“These new homes are a real boost for Kerang District Health and the wider community, helping attract the doctors, nurses and healthcare professionals our region needs now and into the future.”

“Strong regional communities need skilled healthcare workers who can build a life and future locally.”

As stated by Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes

“When we invest in housing for healthcare workers, we’re investing in stronger health services, healthier communities and a brighter future for regional Victoria.”

“These new units are an investment in Kerang’s future, supporting healthcare workers while strengthening one of our region’s most important services.”

As stated by Ms Kellie Byron-Gray, Chief Executive Officer, Kerang District Health

“We are better positioned to attract high-quality professionals, support their transition and integration into the community, and encourage them to build long-term careers with our organisation and the Loddon Mallee region.”
