More Paramedics Join Victoria’s Frontline

VIC Premier

The Carroll Labor Government is backing emergency care when and where it’s needed most.

Premier Carroll and Minister Stitt today welcomed 24 new graduate paramedics and four new Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance (MICA) paramedics to the Ambulance Victoria ranks.

Their recruitment means more than 80 graduate, qualified and MICA paramedics have joined the service since July.

In the last year alone, Labor recruited 294 more graduate paramedics.

The cohort of graduates are the second intake for 2026/27 and commenced their four-week induction today.

Their training covers areas such as clinical education, driving, manual handling and occupational violence.

The course builds on the knowledge and experience gained during their three-year university degree.

20 graduates will be placed across Melbourne, including Moonee Ponds, St Albans, Caulfield, Eltham, Rosebud, Ferntree Gully, Werribee and Hillside.

Another four will be placed at branches in regional Victoria, including Geelong, Kilmore and Gisborne.

The four fully qualified MICA paramedics join Ambulance Victoria from NSW, the UK and for the first time, Vanuatu.

MICAs are specialist paramedics with advanced intensive care training who help the most critically ill and injured.

This bridging program prepares them to handle complex procedures including airway management, head and chest trauma care, and cardiac emergencies.

The four MICAs will be based in Wonthaggi, Mildura and Horsham – a boost for regional Victoria.

Both cohorts of paramedics will hit the road from Monday, 14 September.

Labor will always back Victoria’s dedicated, highly skilled paramedics.

This includes investing more than $2 billion and growing the workforce by more than 50 per cent and delivering 51 new or upgraded ambulance stations.

This is in stark contrast to a One Nation Liberal Coalition whose $40 billion cuts plan will slash paramedic jobs.

Last time they were in government, the Liberals went to war with paramedics, labelling them militant thugs.

If given the chance, they’ll do it again, and it will be Victorians who pay the price.

As stated by Premier Ben Carroll

“Our paramedics are world-class – and we’re supporting them with more resources and record funding.”

“Labor will always back our ambos to do what they do best – deliver world-class lifesaving care for Victorians.”

As stated by Minister for Ambulance Services Ingrid Stitt

“Our paramedics are busier than ever, that’s why we’re making sure our on-road workforce continues to grow to meet demand.”

“The contrast between Labor and a One Nation-Liberal Coalition couldn’t be clearer. We back our paramedics. They wage war on them.”
