Collie’s extensive mountain bike network is continuing to grow, with the release of a tender for a further 12km to be constructed in 2020.
This builds on the recently completed Arklow Adaptive Trail, designed to allow mountain bike riders with a disability an opportunity to ride through the pristine Arklow Forest.
The additional 12km will bring the total length of new and upgraded mountain bike trails in Arklow to almost 30km, making it an attraction for national and international cyclists, and tourists.
The new trail is part of the McGowan Government’s $10 million initiative to create and maintain more than 180km of high-quality mountain bike and bushwalking trails in Collie and Dwellingup.
This includes the week-long Job-Ready Trail Construction Training course designed to equip locals with the skills to find a job in the local trails industry.

As stated by Environment Minister Stephen Dawson:
“On the doorstep of Collie, the Arklow jarrah and marri forests provide a beautiful environment that is popular with mountain bikers.
“The McGowan Government recognises the value of Western Australia’s national parks, reserves and forests and is committed to creating new and improved ways for visitors to get out and enjoy and connect with them.
“Collie is also benefiting from further investment, with works commencing on the upgrade of Collie River Scenic Drive, which travels through the picturesque Westralia Conservation Park alongside the Collie River.”
As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister and Collie-Preston MLA Mick Murray:
“Collie’s growing trails network is set to become Western Australia’s best – helping to attract to visitors from across WA and Australia to experience the region.
“This new trail will bring the network in Arklow up to about 30km, providing further variety for mountain bikers to explore and adding to Collie’s growing trails town status.”
