Motorcycle impound in Albion

Melton Highway Patrol officers have arrested a man after a motorbike was observed travelling at high speeds in Albion earlier this week.

Police initially observed the grey Kawasaki without a number plate carrying a pillion passenger on Ballarat Road on Wednesday 2 February about 10pm.

The motorbike allegedly rode through red lights and evaded police at high speeds in excess of 120km/h in a 70km zone before riding into a car park in Forrest Street where the motorbike clipped a police vehicle as it attempted to flee the area.

The male rider then allegedly ran from the scene leaving his pillion passenger behind.

A 49-year-old Melton West man was arrested nearby.

During a search of the man, police located a large amount of cash, a flick key knife, suspected methylamphetamine and cannabis.

He is expected to be charged with various offences including reckless conduct endanger life, fail to stop vehicle on police request, refuse preliminary breath test, unlicensed driving, possess controlled weapon without excuse and possess drugs of dependence.

The motorcycle was impounded for 30 days at a cost of $932.40.

The man has been remanded in custody to appear at court at a later date in relation to a number of outstanding warrants.
