Motorcyclist charged after pursuit in Belmont

A motorbike rider will appear in court charged following a pursuit with police in the Hunter region overnight.

About 1.20am (Friday 10 July 2020), officers from Lake Macquarie Police District were patrolling the Pacific Highway, Belmont, when they attempted to stop a Suzuki motorcycle, not displaying registration plates.

When it failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated before being terminated shortly after due to safety concerns.

The motorbike was later seen stopped on the grass verge of the Pacific Highway and upon seeing police, the rider has run off. He was pursued by officers and arrested.

The 36-year-old man was taken to Belmont Police Station and charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive at speed, Not comply with direction given by police officer, Licence expired less than 2 years before, Use registrable vehicle not display authorised number-plates, Use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle on road, and Use uninsured motor vehicle on road

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Belmont Local Court on Wednesday 5 August 2020.
