Dharug-Dharawal artist, Venessa Possum will return to Georges River to showcase her curated ‘nangamay dreams’ exhibition in the Dragon’s Lair Gallery at the Hurstville Museum & Gallery.
Inspired by her Artist in Residency at Carss Park Artists Cottage in 2020 with Hurstville Museum & Gallery, the exhibition consists of an installation with a video and a drape of linen-voile featuring printed images extracted from her journaling during her residency.
‘nangamay dreams’ combines video and traditional art to create a collection of drawings, paintings, poetry and Colonial records for different mediums from photography to video installations.
The exhibition captures sensorial experiences drawn by Possum’s experience with significant sites of her ancestry to reveal a continuity of culture.
Georges River Council Mayor Nick Katris said, “Art and culture is at the core of our community, so it is important for locals to connect with our rich Indigenous history through these creations.”

Locals can also join Venessa Possum for a free ‘Afternoon with the Artist’ which will be held on Sunday July 17 from 2.30pm to learn more about her residency and creative processes of her ‘nangamay dreams’ exhibition. Tickets are free however bookings are essential.
