This week Disability Employment Australia will honour an exceptional individual from Western Australia for his significant and long-term contribution to Australia’s disability employment sector.
This is the tenth year of inductions into Disability Employment Australia’s (DEA’s) Hall of Fame, with the national awards commencing in 2010 to celebrate outstanding contributions to disability employment.
This year, three remarkable individuals will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at DEA’s Gala Dinner, following day one of DEA’s national disability employment conference.
Western Australian disability great, Paul Cain, will be posthumously inducted into the DEA Hall of Fame for his long and distinguished service to intellectual disability in Australia, as both advocate and researcher.
Prior to his death in November 2018, Paul was committed to ensuring every Australian with an intellectual disability was afforded the same rights and freedoms as their peers. His contribution to Australia has changed, and continues to change, many lives and families.
Paul worked diligently for Inclusion Australia, previously known as the National Council on Intellectual Disability (NCID), where his steadfast commitment to human rights is unsurpassed. Many of Chief Executive Officer Paul Cain’s 23 years with Inclusion Australia were devoted to advocating for people with intellectual disability to be included in the open labour market.
Paul had a long history in representing people with disability in developing national employment policy. He will be remembered as a tireless advocate with an unwavering commitment to the rights of people with disability.
His wife Loretta Cain and their children will be present on the night to collect the award on his behalf.
