National Day of Action targeting Mongols OMCG

Since 2014 the National Taskforce Operation Morpheus delivered a coordinated approach to the tackling the criminality linked with Outlaw Motorcycle Groups.

In February 2020 the taskforce has undertaken national activities targeting the Mongols OMCG, responding to intelligence regarding the club’s unlawful activities.

As a result, police across Australia have taken number of actions and charged multiple persons linked to the Mongols club.

As part of this national action the State Crime Command’s Organised Crime Gangs Group and South East Region police undertook a number of search warrants at Ashmore, Helensvale, Coomera and Mermaid Beach.

During the raids, police allegedly located weapons including knuckledusters, dangerous drugs and cash. In total eight people have been charged with 20 offences in Queensland, including the president of the Gold Coast chapter of the Mongols club.

Other items seized from various addresses during the operation include three Harley Davidson motorcycles suspected of being stolen and mobile phones.

All have been released under strict bail conditions to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court.

As part of the ongoing operations to disrupt serious crime linked to the organised crime networks, Taskforce Maxima teams additionally served 20 consorting warning notices.

Detective Superintendent Roger Lowe, Commander of the Queensland Police Service Organised Crime Gangs Group and chairperson of the Taskforce Morpheus said authorities will continue to target these organised crime gangs that pose a threat to our community.

“These gangs, including the Mongols, prey on our community through their involvement in the illicit drug market, violence and their motivations of profit and greed,” Detective Superintendent Lowe said.

“These gangs are not motorcycle enthusiasts and that myth is no longer believed by the communities impacted by their brutality and crime. We will make every effort to ensure their criminal activities are not expanded.”
