National Day of Mourning for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

The National Day of Mourning for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Thursday 22 September, has been declared a national public holiday.

Blacktown City Mayor Tony Bleasdale OAM said; “The National Day of Mourning allows people to pay their respects privately or as part of a public memorial service for the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

“Blacktown City Council will observe the National Day of Mourning and as such most Council service points will be closed in line with normal public holiday arrangements, although limited services will be available in some facilities.”

Council will install a large screen in the Warrick Lane precinct in the Blacktown city centre from Monday afternoon 19 September to Friday 23 September, to enable people to view the funeral of Her Majesty and other ceremonies including the National Day of Mourning.

Council will continue to provide essential operations to maintain and cleanse public areas including:

  • Waste collection in parks
  • Street cleaning
  • Security services (limited)
  • Cleaning services (limited)
  • Mechanics to service waste trucks.
