The National President of the Nomads Outlaw Motorcycle Gang (OMCG) has been charged with firearms and criminal group-related offences following his extradition from the Australian Capital Territory earlier today.
In December last year, the State Crime Command’s Criminal Groups Squad, together with officers from across Southern Region, established Strike Force Essendene to investigate several public place shootings, assaults and other criminal activities throughout the state’s south coast.
As part of their ongoing inquiries, officers attached to ACT Policing’s Taskforce Nemesis, with assistance from NSW Police Force Criminal Groups Squad detectives, arrested a 34-year-old man in the Canberra suburb of Garran about 1.30pm yesterday (Wednesday 19 August 2020).
Search warrants were executed a short time later at homes in the Canberra suburbs of Kingston and Kambah, where investigators seized two motor vehicles, a firearm, cash, prohibited drugs, jewellery and various OMCG paraphernalia, including patches.
Today (Thursday 20 August 2020), the man appeared at ACT Magistrates Court, where Criminal Groups Squad detectives applied for, and were granted, his extradition to NSW.
He was taken to Queanbeyan Police Station and charged with knowingly direct activities of criminal group, participate in a criminal group, supply prohibited firearm and supply ammunition.
Police will allege in court that the 34-year-old man supplied the firearms used in three public place shootings in the Batemans Bay area, which he had directed to take place.
He was refused bail to appear at Goulburn Local Court tomorrow (Friday 21 August 2020).
Investigations under Strike Force Essendene are continuing.
