National weather forecast: Wet and windy for Western Australia

BOM

Hello from the Bureau, with your National Weather Forecast for this weekend, starting from Saturday the 2nd of August. So we’ll start by looking at tomorrow’s synoptic chart, and just noticing this deepening low pressure system off the New South Wales coast that’s going to be bringing some very wet and windy weather. For the south-east though, a ridge of high pressure extends into central Australia, bringing generally dry and settled weather. Out west, a strong cold front seeing a return of the winds, rain and showers.

So let’s move around the country, taking a closer look, starting off with Queensland.

We have showers forecast across southern areas, but even isolated showers just peppered about the east coast as well. It is going to be a very cold day with daytime temperatures between 2 to 8 degrees below the August average. In fact, it’s going to be so cold that small hail is possible through inland parts of the south-east, and even the potential for a dusting of snow about the Granite Belt. As we head further inland through the west, morning frost patches clearing to a mostly sunny day. For Brisbane, a shower or two and a top of 19 degrees.

Down in New South Wales, it is going to be a cold, wet and windy day through much of eastern and northern parts. In fact, there will also be a risk of thunderstorms about the exposed coast and also about the northern ranges where small hail may occur. Heavy rainfall is possible through the Upper Hunter and the Mid North Coast, and we do have a separate dedicated severe weather video. So if you’re after
