Navy and charity team up to thrill

A member of the public had the chance to experience what it’s like to be a Navy pilot, thanks to 723 Squadron.

Paula Jeff won a flight simulator experience at an event for Variety, the charity dedicated to supporting children and families facing illnesses, disadvantage or living with a disability.

On arrival at the 723 Squadron, Ms Jeff, her husband Roger, and friends Colin and Heather were given a short tour of the facility. They were able to see how 723 Squadron works, meet members of the unit and gain a greater understanding of what it takes to be Navy aircrew.

The highlight of the visit was the flight simulator experience, which lasted over an hour. Ms Jeff got to take control of a virtual helicopter and experience the thrill of flying.

Lieutenant Jack Breckenridge, the Navy Aviation Warfare Officer who hosted the day, explained the controls and answered questions.

Ms Jeff said she “never thought I would have the chance to do something like this”.

“It was an amazing opportunity to learn about the Navy and experience what it’s like to be a pilot. I’m so grateful to 723 Squadron for providing this opportunity and for all of the work they do to engage with the community,” she said.
