New $500,000 Community Car and Coach Fund

Jeremy Rockliff,Minister for Community Services and Development

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is delivering on our First 100 Day commitment to establish a Community Car and Coach Fund, particularly in Tasmania’s regional communities.

Parameters have now been established and approved for the $500,000 Fund which provides direct transport support to disadvantaged Tasmanians or groups.

It supports organisations to purchase vehicles to provide access to essential services within their communities where other transport options may be more limited.

The Fund will support applications that are community-led, that support rural and regional communities, and that provide community access to essential services.

That’s because we recognise that the program is a sound investment in building strong and resilient communities, supporting Tasmanians wherever they live.

The Fund will have flexibility in relation to the vehicles that best meet the needs of each community – whether that’s a car, mini-bus or van.

In addition, the Tasmanian Government has delivered funding to the King Island Council for assistance with funding its community car, to keep people connected as we secure Tasmania’s future through community collaboration.

Detailed Grant Guidelines will be released ahead of the Fund opening on 1 July 2021.
