New Ararat Footpath Upgrades Improve Connections to Gordon Street Recreation Reserve

Ararat Rural City Council has continued to build on its commitment to improving the municipality’s connectivity, with the recent completion of another significant infrastructure project.

A new footpath has been constructed in Ararat along Albert Street, running from Rundell Street to Gorrinn Village.

A second newly completed section connects the existing path from the carpark to Gordon Street Recreation Reserve and features solar bollard lighting.

The project removed the existing footpath and constructed a new path to improve pedestrian safety and accessibility and cater to mobility aids. To ensure safe road crossings, kerb ramps and tactile indicators have also been installed.

The project successfully delivered over 300 meters of new footpath in total. This project improves accessibility for Gorrinn Village retirement residents and provides the broader community with easier access to the Gordon Street Recreation Reserve for exercise and social gatherings.

This project is supported by the Victorian Government’s Flexible Local Transport Solutions Program alongside Council’s Footpaths and Cycleways initiative, through its Capital Works Program.

“We’re really focused on investing in infrastructure that makes a practical difference to our community’s daily life, and this new and improved Albert Street footpath is a great example of that,” said Ararat Rural City Council CEO, Dr. Tim Harrison.

“Linking the retirement village directly to the Gordon Street Recreation Reserve gives our residents a direct, accessible, and well-lit route. It’s a key step forward in our efforts to upgrade local footpaths and make it easier for everyone to get outside safely.”
