This week Council endorsed the appointment of Leigh Harry as the new Chair of Yarra Ranges Tourism Inc. for the next three years.

Leigh will replace the outgoing Chair, James Robinson, after notifying Council of his plans to stand down from the role in October 2022.

Yarra Ranges Mayor, Cr Jim Child, said that Mr Harry’s leadership and strong background in tourism would be a great asset to the organisation.

“We’re really excited by Leigh’s appointment, not only will he bring great leadership but also a great depth of local knowledge,” said Cr Child.

“He has demonstrated success in both public and private sector in senior management, CEO and Chairman/President roles, while also being a part of the Valley Regional Community Recovery Committee.

“He has shown a great deal of passion for the Destination Management Plan, funded by Yarra Ranges Tourism and Nillumbik, Manningham and Yarra Ranges Councils, which sets out the direction for our region for the next decade.

“This makes it the perfect time for him to take the helm of Yarra Ranges Tourism, and we’re excited to have him on board.

Cr Child also acknowledged and thanked outgoing Chair, James Robinson, for his leadership of Yarra Ranges Tourism since 2016 and commitment to the region.

“James has been fantastic in his role as Chair over the past six years, not only guiding Yarra Ranges Tourism through the pandemic and storm of 2021, but through major changes in the tourism industry as well.”

“He has made a substantial contribution to the tourism industry and to the Yarra Ranges in general, and we wish him all the best for the future.

Council recently signed an agreement to extend funding for Yarra Ranges Tourism for the next 12 months and looks forward to working with them closely in future.
