  • Cook Government delivering accessible facilities for people with disability
  • $150,000 towards a new Changing Places in the Busselton Jetty Foreshore precinct
  • Part of the State Government’s $2 million election commitment to increase the number of Changing Places around WA
  • Specialist bathrooms provide suitable toilet and changing facilities for people with complex needs who cannot use standard accessible toilets

The Busselton Jetty Foreshore precinct is set to become even more accessible with a new Changing Places facility, adding to a growing State-wide network of locations with accessible bathroom facilities.

The Cook Government has provided a grant of $150,000 to the City of Busselton for the development of the dedicated, specialist bathroom facility for people who cannot use a standard or accessible toilet.

Changing Places are room-sized facilities that include a ceiling hoist, height-adjustable adult-sized change table and room for two carers to assist. They may also include a combined accessible shower facility and privacy screen to uphold the user’s dignity.

The first Changing Places were launched in the United Kingdom in 2006 to support the many people who cannot use standard accessible toilets, including those with profound and multiple learning disabilities, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy and elderly people.

There are now 46 registered Changing Places across WA, with 34 in metropolitan Perth and 12 in regional centres.

The Busselton facility is expected to be operational by the end of 2025.
