New designs for Tuggeranong foreshore and Casey community park

The ACT Government is rolling out more suburban infrastructure upgrades across Canberra, with construction to start on Tuggeranong foreshore and Casey recreation park next year.

“This is part of our biggest, ever program to improve suburban infrastructure across our city, with upgrades to local shops and group centres, playgrounds, dog parks and other community facilities,” said Minister for Transport and City Services Chris Steel.

“I am pleased to release draft designs for improvements to Lake Tuggeranong Foreshore for input, before we proceed with the third stage of upgrades at the Tuggeranong Town Centre.

“Following community feedback on the draft designs we’ve finalised plans for the new community recreation park at Casey, ready for construction to begin in 2023.

“In the coming weeks, we’ll also be announcing more consultations for planned upgrades to dog parks in Franklin and Lanyon, as well as playground upgrades in Lyons and Kaleen.” said Minister Steel.

Tuggeranong foreshore improvements

The designs focus on the priorities identified in community feedback – including:

  1. Upgrading the Tuggeranong Town Park playground with new equipment, to provide more accessible play and picnic spots. Features include nature play, a climber rope and balance challenge
  2. Replacing the existing Tuggeranong Town Park toilet with new, accessible facilities
  3. Improving the accessibility and safety of the foreshore path network, including widening the path around sharp corners near the boardwalk, removing obstacles and providing new street furniture to sit and rest
  4. Improving way-finding around the foreshore (including directions to existing public toilets near Reed St) and a new shared path with cycle and pedestrian symbols
  5. On the Eastern side of the lake, at least another 70 trees will planted along the existing shared path and in the foreshore open space this spring and next autumn
  6. At the Tuggeranong Skate Park, works to address safety issues and rideability such as minor resurfacing and replacement of damaged ramp surfaces will be undertaken in the first half of 2023.

These designs, including artist impressions, are now available to view and provide feedback on the YourSay project page. Feedback closes Sunday 9 October 2022.
