A new dino-mite exhibition exploring the incredible world of Australia’s dinosaurs has opened at the Royal Australian Mint (the Mint) in Canberra.
Dinosaurs Down Under will immerse visitors in a prehistoric world, to uncover the wonder and fragility of life over time, from the age of dinosaurs to their descendants still among us.
Hannah Webb, A/g Collections and Public Program Manager said “Dinosaurs Down Under highlights the incredible world of Australia’s diverse dinosaurs, unearthing the evolution of these prehistoric creatures who roamed around Australia millions of years ago.”
“The exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to trace the evolution of dinosaurs to their descendants still among us and everything in between. It also encourages visitors to consider the fragility of the natural world and our relationship to the changing environment and endangered species.”
Visitors to the exhibition will be greeted by several dinosaur models. Inquisitive explorers will then move to the palaeontology section which includes a specimen of Australia’s largest dinosaur, the Australovnator, as well as realistic artworks of dinosaurs done by renowned Australian artist Peter Trusler.
Finally, in the Dino-Zone, budding palaeontologists can dig deeper into the discovery and progression of dinosaurs with a myriad of activities and fun for the whole family to enjoy.
Combining learning with fun through dinosaur models, special kids’ activities and digital recreations of fossils that bring dinosaurs to life, this exhibition will bring out the inner palaeontologist in everyone.

At the end of the experience, visitors can mint their very own Dinosaurs Down Under coin, an opportunity that is only available at the Mint. The coin comes neatly packaged in a collectable card featuring one of five different dinosaur designs, including:

- Timimus hermani
