New directors for BCA board

Business Council of Australia

The nation’s leading business group has backed President Tim Reed for another two-year term and added the expertise of three of Australia’s most dynamic business leaders to its board.

The Business Council of Australia’s AGM has endorsed Matt Comyn (Commonwealth Bank), Mike Henry (BHP) and Rob Scott (Wesfarmers) as board directors.

Their leadership, skills and years of experience adds even more weight to the Business Council board as it works to build a stronger future for all Australians, said Business Council President Tim Reed.

“Over the last two years Australia’s largest employers have gone above and beyond to meet some of Australia’s biggest ever challenges, it’s an honour to continue representing them,” said Mr Reed

“Heading towards 2022, I’m looking forward to working with Jennifer Westacott and the board to harness our momentum and ensure Australia’s biggest employers play a central role locking in the country’s future prosperity.

“My focus is firmly on the things we know are critical to ensuring enduring prosperity for all members of our community.

“I want to thank Alison Watkins, Peter Coleman and Catherine Tanna who have departed the board, for their leadership and wise counsel to the business community throughout the complex policy debates and turbulence of the last few years.

“New board members will help lock in our position as the nation’s leading voice for Australia’s largest employers, shaping the public debate and making the changes necessary to set ourselves up for the future,” Mr Reed said.

Mr Comyn said: “The BCA plays a critical role in advocating for Australian businesses and their people across a range of important issues to the country and I look forward to helping to promote its agenda for sustainable economic growth for the benefit of all Australians.”

Mr Henry said: “I look forward to working with the BCA and my fellow directors to further strengthen Australia’s economic position and support jobs, small businesses and regional economies across the country. Australia is well positioned to navigate global challenges and emerge stronger than ever on the world stage.

“I am optimistic about the positive role business can play in supporting Australia’s place in global trade, and as an attractive and stable destination for investment.”

Mr Scott said: “Business has an important role to play to advance Australia’s economic growth and to enable more vibrant and connected communities.

“I’m proud to represent Wesfarmers on the Business Council of Australia and to support the important policy work and stakeholder engagement that will be critical to Australia’s future prosperity.”
