Victoria has confirmed its travelling squad for the opening match of its 2026/27 domestic campaign, with several new faces set to feature against Queensland in Saturday’s Dean Jones Trophy clash.
Will Sutherland heads north in excellent form after impacting with both bat and ball during the Top End T20 series in the Northern Territory.
Matt Short returns to Victorian colours following a dominant overseas period with the Cricket Victorian partner, the San Francisco Unicorns in Major League Cricket, and in The Hundred in the UK.
Liam Blackford, Mitchell Jamieson and fast bowler Harry Hoekstra are in line to make their Victorian debuts, adding a fresh and exciting look to the squad for the season opener.
Blackford’s selection marks a significant achievement after overcoming considerable challenges throughout his journey into the Victorian program.
Dylan Brasher will aim to build on a breakout 2025/26 season, which saw him dominate Victorian Premier Cricket for Footscray before earning his List A and first-class debuts.
Victorian Head Coach Chris Rogers said the side was ready to turn an excellent pre-season into results.
“We’ve been really pleased with the work everyone has put in over the past few months and there’s a genuine hunger take that onto the field,” Rogers said.
“We’re determined to begin our domestic season well, and it’s exciting to see some fresh faces earn the chance to represent Victoria.
“We’re also incredibly proud of the Victorians currently away representing Australia and Australia A. The quality of our depth is incredibly strong, which is exciting for Victorian cricket and a great reflection of a pathway system that continues to go from strength to strength.”
