Pinjarra Senior High School students are set to benefit from an exciting new construction project which will provide much-needed modern facilities on site and create local jobs.
Premier Mark McGowan and Murray-Wellington MLA Robyn Clarke were at the school today to announce a new performing arts centre and sports hall for the school, expected to be completed during the 2022 school year.
The sports hall and performing arts centre will include teaching spaces for drama and dance with a green room and storage, kitchen facilities, change rooms, secure storage, student and staff toilets, and staff areas.
Students currently use offsite facilities located across the road from the school for performing arts and sports classes. The new facilities will allow students to remain on site for all lessons.
Pinjarra Senior High School was established in 1921 with the current facilities built in 1951. It currently has around 800 students from years 7 to 12, with enrolments expected to increase steadily over the next 10 years.
The WA Recovery Plan includes $5.5 billion in measures to help drive economic and social recovery across the State.
As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:
“The WA Recovery Plan includes an unprecedented program of upgrades to schools across the State, and I’m delighted to announce these fantastic new facilities for Pinjarra Senior High School.
“The plan prioritises projects that will deliver outstanding local facilities, while creating jobs for Western Australians.”
As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:
“I have visited Pinjarra Senior High School and have seen first-hand the lack of performing arts and sport facilities at the school. I am pleased that we are able to deliver these essential upgrades for the local community.
“The school will have a new performing arts centre and sports hall, and I know staff and parents will also be thrilled the school will benefit from modern facilities.
“It will allow students to have every lesson on the school site and ensure they are learning in the best environment for years to come.”
As stated by Murray-Wellington MLA Robyn Clarke:
“I have long supported the idea that every child deserves a good education, and deserve the tools to make that achievable. This is why we have supported their campaign for a new performing arts centre and sports hall.
“It is great to work with a Government that values education in the regions, and I know future students will value this investment.
“The building of these facilities is very exciting for our students and wider community, and we are all looking forward to its completion.”
