Snowy Monaro Regional Council has announced a partnership with Francis-Jones Morehen Thorp (fjmtstudio) and Built to design and deliver the new community library for Jindabyne.
Following a very competitive tender process, the joint application by FJMT Studio and Built was selected. The design brief specified a prefabricated building to meet a delivery timeframe of mid-2022 and to be complementary to the adjacent Jindabyne Memorial Hall.
The Jindabyne community and surrounds are currently serviced by the Mobile Library.
The NSW Government funding for this project through the Regional Cultural Fund will allow a modular library to be installed and remain on-site for at least five years. After this time, it may be moved and repurposed dependent on the newly designed civic area under the SAP (Special Activation Precinct – Snowy Mountains).
Council’s CEO Peter Bascomb said the project has generated a high level of community interest and will deliver significant value to the community.
“The Jindabyne community has been requesting an expansion of the library service and we’re confident the new space will enrich the lives of the surrounding residents. This library will provide a place where the community can connect, share and learn all year round.”
fjmtstudio is dedicated to design excellence and enhancement of the public domain. Elizabeth Carpenter, Managing Principal of fjmtstudio said “The library provides an opportunity to demonstrate our commitment and passion for place driven buildings, design excellence and enhancing public domain. We are proud to be able to do this in this stunning alpine setting.”
The Jindabyne community library is funded by the NSW Government through the Regional Cultural Fund.
