New lights for Bass Recreation Reserve

An upgrade of the lighting around the oval at the Bass Recreation Reserve is underway.

The Project includes an upgrade to the power supply at the Reserve, to accommodate the new lighting, which, following the upgrade, will meet the Australian Standard (average of 100 lux across the oval) for training, for the Kilcunda-Bass Football Netball Club. The existing lighting average is well below the Australian Standard at 12.5 lux, which makes it difficult for the Club to undertake night-time training sessions.

The $250,000 project is expected to be completed in June and is be being funded by $100,000 from Bass Coast Shire Council, $100,000 from Sport and Recreation Victoria and $50,000 from the Kilcunda-Bass Football Netball Club.

Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Brett Tessari, said it was fantastic to see the Bass Recreation Reserve receiving further upgrades, after the netball facilities received a full overhaul in 2019.

“This lighting Project will complement the upgrade works completed on the netball courts and will significantly improve the facilities for the Kilcunda-Bass Football Netball Club,” Cr Tessari said.

Works are currently underway, with the delivery of lighting poles and fixtures expected in late March. The trenching and electrical conduit installation has been completed.

Kilcunda-Bass Football Netball Club will continue to train at the Reserve during the construction of the new lighting and will not be impacted by the works. Council will ensure that appropriate traffic and pedestrian control measures are in place during the works.
