New Local Planning and Development Workshops with key insights for Builders

Wingecarribee Shire

Wingecarribee Shire Council is excited to kick off the first two events of the 2024 Development Forum Series this March. The aim of the forums is to help keep local builders, new and seasoned, up to date with the latest planning and development processes, as well as provide the opportunity to connect with Council on industry topics of interest.

Wingecarribee Council has recently welcomed Jon Shillito to the Manager Development Assessment and Regulation role. He says he’s looking forward to the opportunity to meet with our community and get into the specifics of the development assessment process here in Wingecarribee.

“We’ll be talking about combined applications, updated policies, our 2024 focuses, what the future planning landscape of the Wingecarribee Shire looks like and leave plenty of time for Q&A with our development assessment leadership team,” said Jon.

“Importantly, our forums are tailored to specific audiences so if you are not sure which one you should attend, don’t hesitate to call customer service for some advice.”

Forum 1 is designed for industry and building professionals on Wednesday 6 March 4:30 pm at the Moss Vale Civic Centre.

Forum 2 (to be held the following week) is targeted towards owner/builders who are embarking on their first build and are unsure of the process. It takes place on Wednesday 13 March 6pm – at the Moss Vale Civic Centre.

This second forum will assist with details of the assessment process and what it entails. Council also hopes to tailor the agenda specific to the audience, with the opportunity for participants to submit questions and/or interest areas they would like covered, which they can put forward when they sign up to register for the event.

Both forums 1 and 2 will talk about expected timelines for the processes and advise of the right people to contact throughout the duration of your assessment.

Monica Thomas, President of the Southern Highlands Division Master Builders Association, says these sessions will be crucial for builders at all levels, to better understand local planning and development processes.

“We see this as an essential opportunity for our members, and the broader community, to gain valuable insights, clarify new policies, and ensure project success in our Shire,” said Ms Thomas.

“I encourage our community to actively engage with these forums. It’s a prime opportunity to directly interact with Council professionals and enhance your application and planning practices,” she added.

The Wingecarribee Shire Council is committed to supporting our local building industry through informative sessions like these, that facilitate a better understanding of the building and assessment processes.

“We look forward to welcoming industry professionals and owner/builders to these forums,” said Cathryn Fuller, Coordinator Fast Track Assessment Team

Further workshops will be announced after feedback from the first two sessions is collected and reviewed.
