New Mount Crosby Vehicle Bridge Opens To Traffic

Minister for Regional Development and Manufacturing and Minister for Water The Honourable Glenn Butcher
  • New bridge delivers greater flood resilience and connectivity for the community
  • Construction has supported 30 jobs
  • Vision

The new Mount Crosby Vehicle Bridge is open, providing a more flood-resilient connection across the Brisbane River for local traffic.

Approximately three metres higher than the existing weir bridge, and with a combination steel and concrete guardrail design to better withstand flooding, the new bridge provides a more flood-resilient route and will deliver improved traffic flow over the Brisbane River in Mount Crosby.

All bridge deck units have been completed, including concrete slab and guardrail installation. The in-river worksite has been removed and environmental works to rehabilitate the riverbank are underway.

At 187-metres in length and nine metres wide, the new bridge accommodates two-way traffic and provides a more flood-resilient route over the Brisbane River in Mount Crosby.

The new dual-lane vehicle bridge project has supported 30 jobs throughout construction and has sourced some construction materials from local suppliers, including ready-mix concrete and quarry materials.

The new vehicle bridge is part of Seqwater’s East Bank Flood Resilience Program, which combined with upgrades to nearby water infrastructure including the East Bank Pump Station, is resulting in over $100 million being invested into bolstering flood resilience at the Mount Crosby precinct.

The East Bank Pump Station project will enhance the asset’s resilience to inundation associated with extreme flood events, bolstering reliable water supply to the Mount Crosby East Bank Water Treatment Plant in severe wet weather.

Critical electrical infrastructure and flood resilience upgrades at the pump station will begin mid-year, as Pensar Construction Group has been awarded the contract for design and construction works. The upgrade is expected to be complete in early 2026, pending weather and site conditions.
