New Parap Preschool One Step Closer

NT Government

The Territory Labor Government continues to create more high quality educational precincts for children and teachers.

Another major step towards delivering a new $10 million Preschool in Parap has just been taken, with the demolition tender being released to the public.

This tender will facilitate the demolition of the existing 50 year old preschool building and outdoor play areas in preparation for new construction works to begin. This is a part of the Territory Labor Governments $4 billion infrastructure budget.

Parap preschool is currently vacant, with the preschool being set up at Parap Primary school while construction of this new facility gets underway.

The redevelopment of this integral community infrastructure will prioritise contemporary learning facilities, seamless access to the preschool, parking and drop off areas.

These works are a part of a wider commitment by the Territory Labor Government to continue to upgrade and improve our education infrastructure.

Since coming to Government in 2016, Territory Labor has delivered four new state-of-the-art STEAM centres, with a $15.4 million construction contract recently awarded to M+J builders to deliver a fifth at Katherine High School.

A dedicated specialist school for Palmerston is also in the planning phase, with a budget submission currently in place to bring this plan to fruition.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Education, Mark Monaghan:

“This is what you get from a Territory Labor Government; a continued investment into world class education infrastructure which your child will benefit from.

“Not only did this Government deliver a record $1.37 billion education budget, but we also delivered a record $4 billion infrastructure budget, both of which make new preschools, school facilities and even whole new schools possible.

“We want your children to be the best they can, we want them to be the future leaders of the Territory, and we are committed to helping them get there.

Quotes attributable to Member for Fannie Bay, Brent Potter:

“The community of Fannie Bay is now one step closer to receiving their new $10 million fit for purpose Parap Preschool.

“High-quality, early childhood education is extremely important to a child becoming the best of their ability, as such it is only appropriate for the Territory Labor Government to continue investing heavily into early childhood education.

“Unlike the CLP, who cut $135 million and 500 jobs from education, we work every single day to give Territory kids every opportunity possible.”
