The Albanese Labor Government’s $2 billion Social Housing Accelerator will help transform the lives of more Tasmanians with the development of 38 new homes in Hobart for women over 55 who are at risk of homelessness.
The $16.7 million project includes $13.36 million from the Albanese Labor Government’s Social Housing Accelerator.
The development will be delivered by the St Vincent de Paul Society and national community housing provider Amelie Housing, with oversight from Homes Tasmania.
The site currently hosts a St Vincent de Paul charity shop and emergency relief centre, as well as a warehouse.
The retail shop and relief centre will be relocated during the works, so service can continue and will remain open to Tasmanians.
Work is expected to begin in February 2024 and be completed by December 2025.
The homes will be delivered as part of the Albanese Labor Government’s $50 million Social Housing Accelerator funding for Tasmania, which will deliver more than 110 new social homes.
This is another example of the Albanese Labor Government working with the Tasmanian Government to build more homes.
This includes a minimum of 1,200 homes for Tasmania through Housing Australia.
The delivery of projects under the Social Housing Accelerator builds on the new $10 billion Housing Australia Future Fund and agreement by National Cabinet to deliver the most significant housing reforms in a generation.
