People in Lucknow and Eastwood will be able to safely walk or cycle to Bairnsdale thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Roads Jaala Pulford today announced that construction of a dedicated shared path on the Great Alpine Road will soon begin.

The off-road shared pathway will be constructed on the Great Alpine Road between Flinns Road and Eastwood Road in Lucknow.

Over one kilometre of shared pathway will be built which will include a cantilevered boardwalk crossing over Goose Gully. The path will connect to the existing shared path network in Bairnsdale.

The $450,000 project is a partnership between the Labor Government and the East Gippsland Shire Council.

Funding for the project is through the Government’s Flexible Local Transport Solutions Program which supports flexible and tailored transport trials, services and infrastructure projects.

As stated by Minister for Roads Jaala Pulford

“We want more Victorians to walk or cycle – that’s why we’re building this new pathway and giving locals more options.”

“We’re investing in transport solutions for regional Victoria to help people get home safer and sooner, no matter where they live.”

As stated by Member for Eastern Victoria Jane Garrett

“The existing shared path network in Bairnsdale will now extend to Lucknow, giving more people more options to get into town.”
