Senior residents in Pinjarra can access specialised care in their local community, with the Bedingfeld Park aged accommodation expansion officially opened today.
The McGowan Government invested $2 million towards the $7.1 million expansion to develop a new 25-bed dementia-specific wing in the existing Bedingfeld establishment.
The new wing is an integrated expansion of the original 45-bed facility, taking Bedingfeld Park’s care capacity to 70 beds.
Designed for people aged over 65 years living with dementia and requiring a high level of nursing care, the new 25 single rooms include a dedicated ensuite bathroom and robe area.
The new wing also incorporates a nurse’s station, common living, dining and activities areas, treatment and utility rooms, a servery kitchen, a secured landscaped courtyard and areas for staff training and support services such as physiotherapy.
Around 48 jobs were created during construction of the facility, as well as an additional 14 operation jobs at Bedingfeld Park.
Bedingfeld Park is a community-owned not-for-profit residential aged care facility successfully operating since 1983.
As stated by Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:
“This new wing will allow Bedingfeld to meet more of the demand for aged care services with increased quality for senior residents in the Peel.
“Quality aged care accommodation helps Western Australians to remain living in their local communities, which benefits local jobs, local business and helps to keep our regional communities strong.”

“The naming of the new wing, Wallace House, honours Dr Peter Wallace for his long-standing contribution to Bedingfeld Park as both a doctor and Board member.
“The McGowan Government’s $2 million contribution to this project is part of our commitment to delivering for seniors in the regions.”
