John Olsen was today elected unopposed as Federal President of the Liberal Party of Australia at a meeting of the Party’s Federal Executive.
He succeeds Nick Greiner, who has served in the role since June 2017.
The Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, paid tribute to Nick Greiner, saying:
“In the 1980s, Nick Greiner inspired my interest in politics. In recent years, I’ve greatly appreciated his counsel and friendship.
“Nick’s steadfastness was invaluable during turbulent times for our Party. His hard work and sound judgement was instrumental to our election result last year.
“Nick has been an outstanding mentor to Liberal parliamentarians, candidates, staff and volunteers, who are all grateful for his contribution.”
John Olsen brings a wealth of experience to the role of Federal President.
He has served as: Premier of South Australia (1996-2001); Minister for Multicultural Affairs (1996-2001); Minister for Infrastructure and Industry (1993-1996); Senator for South Australia (1990-1992); and State Opposition Leader (1982-1990).
John Olsen said: “I look forward to working with Liberals across Australia to ensure our organisation is strong and campaign ready.
“Scott Morrison and his team are doing an outstanding job governing for all Australians. The Liberal Party will be there to support them.”
